Broadband Infrastructure

PAE was awarded the assignment of replacing a long running AC-DC PSU for one of the world’s leading global supplier of long-haul, subsea, data center interconnect, and metro transport applications for fiber communication. The challenge was part low-cost targets together with robust and high performance requirements as well as generic market adaptation. The system was required to be marketable on 7 markets around the world with CE, UL and NEBS approvals. PAE worked close together with the customer to develop a high performance, modular and compact (1U) AC-DC power supply capable of 2000W redundant power output at a very favorable price point. Time to market from the first drawing to fully certified and ramped up production was less than 1 year. This meant that PAE reduced the planned R&D period by at least 6 months.


Surge protection plays a vital and critical role in every electrical system. This is increasingly true in the Automotive world. Even though the threat of external surge events such as lightning strikes are not a problem, the vehicles of today faces a big challenge with ever more sophisticated electronics embedded in the car….

Volvo Cars design and produce some of the most high tech cars in the world but even so they need to constantly develop their vehicle platforms to meet the never so high demand of smart and safe car-systems. This means more electronics is added to the car, which in turn creates more demand on the surge protection measures. This was the case when the special product division of Volvo Cars came to PAE looking for a auxiliary fuse box to integrate in the SPA-platform cars (V90/S90/XC90/XC60). The original fuse boxes where simply fully packed and protection for the new system had to be placed somewhere else. Through the vast  portfolio of Littelfuse products PAE managed to define the right fuse box (performance, size, shape, etc.) to be fitted together with the standard system already in place.  PAE then supported Volvo through the design integration progress (including prototyping, documentation, product registration , etc.). As a solution provider PAE managed to fix the customers problem in a fraction of time to what that the big Tier 1 or 2 suppliers could accomplish. By thinking outside the box and use standard components PAE solved the issue quickly and at a low cost for the customer. PAE is now involved in three new projects for future Volvo products in regards to surge protection.


During the last 20 years the Telecom industry have grown from NMT to GSM, LTE and onwards to todays 5G development. PAE have since the late 1990:s supplied Telecom companies with power quality- and power distribution systems. Together with the manufacturer EATON PAE have co-designed high preforming DC-distribution systems to Ericsson’s GSM and LTE base stations (RBS-) world wide. As an business integrator PAE utilized the highly skilled R&D professionals at Ericsson together with EATON:s world leading manufacturing capabilities to deliver the best power system solutions in the market. PAE have delivered more than 700 000 power distributions to base stations all over the world.

Telecom Re-Design

With long experience in site power PAE have supported several of its customers to re-design DC-power systems for higher efficiency, better safety, longer lifetime and lower cost. One great example of this is a sub power distribution used in one of Ericsson’s network systems, the  SSC-02.  This sub-rack was re designed by PAE with a target of 50% cost reduction. After a successful  design process PAE was awarded to manufacture the subsystem and production was set up in Nynäshamn south of Stockholm. Before the network system SSC-02 was discontinued in 2016 PAE had produced over 20 000 sub-systems.
